Bio

I currently write about K-12 education for the Minnesota Star Tribune.

I’ve also had beats at the Omaha World-Herald, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and the Lincoln Journal Star.

The Global Eyewitness program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln gave me international and multimedia reporting experience. As a three-time participant, I followed stories through mountainside Sherpa villages in Nepal, nearly abandoned towns in Ecuador, and fishing huts stilted above the Caribbean Sea.

Whether I’m writing a feature on a preschool-aged filmmakers or sharing the story of a Syrian man who narrowly avoided a public beheading by ISIS militants, I am passionate about listening, observing and writing with empathy and an open mind.

When I’m not working, I’m likely outside running, hiking or chasing my two dogs around our property, trying to convince them not to jump into our pond.
